Renting long term: frequently asked questions
Everything about how monthly renting works on LongTermRent — pricing, stays, deposits and dealing directly with landlords.
- What does “long-term rental” mean on LongTermRent?
- Every home is rented by the month, for one month or longer. Prices are always per month — never per night — and tenants pay no tourist-style booking fees on top of the rent.
- How do I find a home?
- Search by city, then narrow down by move-in month, stay length, price, bedrooms and more. Every city also has its own page with quick links by bedroom size, price and property type.
- How do I contact a landlord?
- Open a listing, pick your move-in month and stay length, and send the owner an inquiry with a short introduction — for free. Once the owner accepts and your reservation payment is made, you’re put in direct contact to agree the contract together.
- Do tenants pay any fees?
- No — tenants pay no extra fees. Browsing and sending inquiries is free. When a booking is confirmed, you secure it with a reservation payment that counts toward your rent, so your total cost never increases — and you and the landlord are put in direct contact as soon as it’s paid. The rest of the pre-arrival balance is also paid to us, following the payment schedule shown on each property (for example, the remaining amount 15 days before arrival). Every payment is protected until move-in: the landlord is paid only 48 hours after you’ve checked in and confirmed everything is in order. The deposit is paid directly to the landlord.
- What is the minimum stay?
- Each listing shows its own minimum, typically between 1 and 6 months. Many owners are flexible when you stay longer.
- How do deposits work?
- Deposits apply to yearly rentals (12+ months) only — stays under 12 months carry no deposit. When asked, the refundable deposit is shown on the listing and paid directly to the landlord when signing — never to us.
- Are utilities included in the rent?
- Some listings include utilities in the monthly price — look for the “bills included” label or filter for it in search. Otherwise typical costs are shown on the listing.
- What does the Verified badge mean?
- Verified landlords have had their identity and listing details reviewed by our team. Verified homes carry a badge on cards and listing pages.
- How do I list my own place?
- Create a free account, click “List your place” and publish in about 10 minutes: set a monthly price, mark the months you’re open, add photos, and let inquiries come to you.
